mamushi pit-viper

we have some kinds of venomous snakes in japan, but only 2 species of poisoners in Honshu,main island.


one is yamakagashi (Rhabdophis tigrinus), tiger keelback.
the other one is mamushi (Gloydius blomhoffii), japanese copperhead, it's very popular and famous poisonous snake in japan.


it looks short, small, and have unique pattern.
volume of poison is a little, but strong.

i cought a young mamushi on road in front of my house and released soon after that.
'cause it is illegal to keep poisonus snakes in japan.
winter has come, snakes going into hibernation 

3rd egg in this year, it's 2nd clutch, hatched out at midnight in Nov. 14th.





 



1st clutch eggs hatched out in 85 or 86 days.
in this time the egg hatched out after 96 days it was laid.






the other egg in 2nd clutch is in bad condtion.
it has burst and something has leaked out, but the egg is still alive i'm waiting for hatching  out.
